A nonce is an acronym for “number only used once,” and it is a number that is appended to a hashed or encrypted block in a blockchain that, when rehashed, fulfills the difficulty level limitations. The nonce is the number that blockchain miners are attempting to calculate. When a solution is identified, the blockchain miners are compensated with bitcoin.
