The purpose of a work schedule is to give employees prior notice of when they’re supposed to work, including dates and times. Schedules differ greatly based on the job at hand, but one of the most common work schedules is 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Many work schedules are flexible in nature.
Many work schedules are flexible in nature. They change from week-to-week or day-to-day. Because of this, employers often provide work schedules for weeks in advance to allow the employees to adjust their schedules accordingly. Upon being hired, employers often ask about preferred work days and hours to accommodate new hires. While the requested hours are often met, the choice of when to schedule the worker belongs to the employer.

Work schedules can be part-time or full-time. Full-time is typically a work schedule that includes at least 40 hours of work in a week. A part-time schedule is usually one that has 39 hours or less. For those working more than their scheduled times, there is often overtime pay available. Overtime pay is an agreed-upon amount that is higher than the normal employee’s hourly rate. It is not usually available for salaried workers, though. The amount of time worked by minors is limited by state and federal child labor laws.
