What Is a Mid-Cap Stock?

Companies with a market cap (capitalization)—or market value—between $2 and $10 billion are referred to as mid-cap (or mid-capitalization). A mid-cap firm, as the name suggests, sits halfway between large-cap (or big-cap) and small-cap enterprises. Large-cap, mid-cap, and small-cap classifications are estimates of a company’s current worth; as such, they may change over time.
