Disadvantages of Intermodal Freight

Intermodal freight movement necessitates a significant investment in infrastructure. When switching modes of transportation, heavy-duty cranes are required to lift containers at various ports. A container, for example, must be moved to a flatbed, train, or truck when it arrives at a harbor. Investments in rail and road access are also necessary. Rail and road access is required by seaports in order for trains and trucks to deliver products to and from the port.
