There is a lot of ambiguity in the market about what management consultants do. Even many management consultants themselves are unable to explain what they do for a living. So here we are describing what the management consulting profession entails.

Management consultants are hired by domestic and global clients to help identify and solve various problems. These problems can be business problems. Organizational problems. Operational problems can even involve defining and improving the processes of a firm. Management consultants have the opportunity to work with high-level executives and senior members of various teams within organizations, and this allows them to develop extremely powerful relationships and build a strong network. This profession also involves frequent travel, long workers, continuous learning and improvement, and working in a team which can involve working in small or big teams. Also, the focus of the project can be either long or short term.

The broad overview of a management consultant’s work can fall under the following three categories.
• Specialization in a field- Management consultants can provide advice and counsel in an area of their expertise which can involve strategy, governance, corporate issues, strategic leadership, finance, digital transformation, organizational change, human resources, talent management, advertising, and marketing, etc.
• Analysis and assessment- This involves in-depth analysis as well as root cause analysis of any problem. This then moves to help the organization which is hired the management consultant by providing an unbiased opinion and perspective on various matters in business problems and issues ailing the firm.
• Project management- In this regard, management consultants work with the senior leadership as well as internal teams of an organization to help deliver a project by leading the project as well as consulting on the project starting from implementation and ending with the execution of the project.
