In order to have a stronghold over the various concepts that are required in this exam, the right time to start preparing for CAT would be in the pre-final year of undergraduation. The students can join various coaching institutes that offer classroom programs or start preparing on their own to analyze their current understanding of the topics. "When to start preparing for the CAT? " is a question most candidates keep asking. The right time or the right moment to start the preparation is something very crucial since CAT is being held every year in the month of November.

However, the answer to the question is very subjective and depends on the candidates preparing for the exam.

There are three potential categories of the candidates who appear for the exam -

  • Candidates in final year of their graduation.
  • Candidates who are graduated but unemployed.
  • Candidates who are graduated and currently pursuing a job.

The first two categories might have time to actively prepare for the exams, while the last category has very little time to invest in their preparations.

Based on their commitments, ideally, a candidate must start preparing eight months prior to the exam and can commit at least 20 hours/week for the preparation. However, the situation changes for someone who is pursuing a job. Then the candidate must start as early as a year prior.
