What is the use of filter in tableau?

Filtering is the tool which allows you to remove certain things which you don’t want included in your data , Filtering is a method of controlling which rows of data are used to perform the analysis and appear in the view in Tableau. An easy way to filter data in Tableau is by using the Filters shelf. When you drop fields onto this shelf, Tableau allows you to select the values you want to use from the data contained within that field.
Steps for doing the filtering process are:

  1. Drag and drop a field onto the Filters shelf to display the Filter dialog box.
  2. On the dialog box’s General tab, select the check boxes for the data you want to include.
  3. Click OK to apply the filter.
  4. Drag a measure and drop it onto the Filters shelf to display the Filter Field dialog box.
  5. Select the type of operation you want to use from the list displayed.
    6.Click Next to display the Filter dialog box. From the options displayed at the top of the dialog box, select the type of filter you want.
  6. at last click ok
