What is the pattern of IIFT entrance exam?

Situated in New Delhi (and new campuses in Kolkata and Kakinada), the “Indian Institute of Foreign Trade” of IIFT was established in the year 1963 as an autonomous institution under the Ministry of Commerce & Industry of the Government of India. The idea behind the institution was to nurture talent in the field of external trade. The flagship course of the institution, MBA in International Business still lives up to its legacy.

The pattern of the question papers in recent years present following picture:

For some years, the number of questions from topics like Modern Mathematics have gone down, while arithmetic has been taking the major share of the questions from the quantitative sections. But it will be wrong and counterproductive to prepare on these lines as the percentage of questions across the fields of Modern Math, Geometry, Algebra, Arithmetic have been varying a lot every year.

In the Logical Reasoning and DI section, the usual topics that feature regularly in the entrance exams of other colleges make an appearance here too. Arrangement, linear and circular, matrices are regular features. Sometimes, Puzzles and direction questions have also been seen. The Data Interpretation questions revolve around basic concepts like ratios, percentages, and other concepts that are helpful in making sense out of a table or a bar, graph and chart.

The General Knowledge section makes the entrance exam for IIFT unique. For students who are in touch with the current affairs and have got their basics in the static part clear, it can be a scoring section, and a nightmare for those who don’t take GK seriously. The proportion between the two sections of GK have been varying like other parts of the paper.

The Verbal Ability & Reading Comprehension section includes sections on Grammar and its basics, Synonyms-Antonyms, Idioms, metaphors etc., which make it different from CAT which features questions like Parajumbles and tests the students on the basis of their sense making skills.
