What is the difference between RPO and RTO?

The recovery point objective (RPO) is concerned with the frequency of backups, whereas the recovery time objective (RTO) is concerned with the recovery timeframe. RPO and RTO can be used to assess the impact of a system outage on company activities.

RPO is a metric that reflects how regularly you backup and the quantity of data that will be lost or reentered after an outage. RTO, on the other hand, is the maximum amount of downtime that a company can tolerate. It influences how long a system will take to recover from a business interruption.
