What is Overfitting and how can you avoid it?

Overfitting can be detected by observing the test level errors. If the test level errors are decreasing the model is considered correct but if the test level error is on the rise it is probably overfitting.

Overfitting can be avoided using the following techniques:

Utilize more data:

This allows algorithms to identify the signal correctly and eliminates errors. Signals are confused with sounds, resulting in low accuracy; therefore, increasing the data amount is one approach for avoiding the mixing of signals and noises; the model will learn the signals better than previously.

Feature removal:

Even though this strategy may result in some information loss, we might simply minimize the data’s structure and complexity. Decreasing neural network parameters, and employing dropouts are some of the approaches that may be used.

Data enhancement:

Data enhancement makes a sample data set look somewhat different each time the program analyses it. The method makes each data set appear unique to the model and prevents the model from comprehending the data sets’ similarities.
