What is blob storage in Azure?

Azure Blob Storage is a service that allows you to store huge volumes of unstructured object data, such as text or binary data, in a single location. Blob Storage may be used to make data available to the public or to keep application data private. Blob Storage is commonly used for the following purposes:

  • Serving images or documents directly to a browser
  • Storing files for distributed access
  • Streaming video and audio
  • Storing data for backup and restore disaster recovery, and archiving
  • Storing data for analysis by an on-premises or Azure-hosted service

Azure Blob storage is a feature of Microsoft Azure. It allows users to store large amounts of unstructured data on Microsoft’s data storage platform. In this case, Blob stands for Binary Large Object, which includes objects such as images and multimedia files. These are known as unstructured data because they don’t follow any particular data model.
