Backlink is an off-page factor of Search Engine Optimization. Google has multiple factors, which determine whether your website will rank high or not, and the number one factor that affects rankings is backlinks.

In simple words, bank links is one website linking to another website.

The more links that your website has, the higher you are going to rank. Google’s crawlers looks at how many backlinks you are getting, and how many you are getting over time.
Google looks at how how related websites are, and they look at something called domain authority, how authoritative that website is.

If you have lots of backlinks from related websites and they have high domain authority, then chances of your website ranking higher are more.

A domain authority is from a scale of 0 to 100. A Logarithmic scale, in which it is way easier to go from 1 to 10, than it is to go from 10 to 20. So, if you can get backlinks from relevant sites, & from authoritative sites that have high domain authority, your rankings going to climb.
