What certifications can help one grow as a product manager?

WHY EVERY CERTIFICATION ISN’T HELPFUL?

While PMP (Project Management Professional) certifications from the Project Management Institute are extremely valuable, they only partially overlap with the Product Management function.
If you’re looking for the best product management certifications, there are only two that are recommended:

  1. The Pragmatic Management Certification from the Pragmatic Institute offers seven certification levels and will walk you through every possible Product Management activity. I have a PMC-VI certificate and can vouch for the quality of the courses and the professionalism of the trainers.

  2. The Association of International Product Marketing and Management (AIPMM) Certified Product Manager (CPM) credential and its variants. The AIPMM takes pride in being the world’s largest association of Product Managers, and their exams are rigorous.

WHY THEY ARE CONSIDERED TOP CERTIFICATIONS?
They are considered top certifications because:
•they are widely recognized by all companies that have a product management function
•they have stood the test of time as a tried and true way to advance your career and salary

WHAT’S THE ISSUE?
The issue with obtaining a credential from another entity that offers certifications that cover only their material (which is the majority of the PM certifications you’ll find in this thread) is that:
• the final exams are designed to be passed by anyone, and thus they mean very little in the real world;
and
• the certification is only recognized by its alumni, further diminishing its importance.
