What are the common Oracle DBA tasks?

As an Oracle DBA, we must do the following duties:

  • Oracle software installation

  • Oracle database creation

  • Upgrading the database and software to the latest release levels

  • The database is started and shut off.

  • Managing the storage structures of the database

  • User management and security

  • Taking care of schema objects like tables, indexes, and views

  • Creating database backups and, if necessary, conducting database recovery

  • Monitoring the database’s health on a regular basis and taking preventative or remedial action if needed

  • Performance tracking and tweaking

In a small-to-midsize database system, a single DBA may be the only one who can handle all of these responsibilities. In big business systems, the work is sometimes split among multiple DBAs with titles such as Database Security Administrator or Database Tuning Expert, each with their particular area of expertise.

Oracle DBA Responsibilities :

(1) Creates and maintains all databases required for development, testing, education and production usage.

(2) Performs the capacity planning required to create and maintain the databases. The DBA works closely with system administration staff because computers often have applications or tools on them in addition to the Oracle Databases.

(3) Performs ongoing tuning of the database instances.

(4) Install new versions of the Oracle RDBMS and its tools and any other tools that access the Oracle database.

(5) Plans and implements backup and recovery of the Oracle database.
