What are meta tags and how do I use them?

Meta title tags and meta descriptions are two types of meta tags that give Google and visitors information about the web page in search results. A meta title tag shows at the top of your browser and acts as the page’s title; title tags should be fewer than 60 characters long and if space permits contain your company’s name. A meta description is a method to encourage people to visit a page that appears beneath a SERP listing. To appear in full on a results page, meta descriptions should be fewer than 155 characters long and include a call to action, such as “Learn more here.” Because Google scans meta tags while indexing, they should also include a company name and a target keyword that relates to the page.
