Is it possible to apply for a data scientist job if we know only the must basic machine learning algorithm?

I think it depends on what sort of role you are targeting. If you’re interested in “analytics for machines” - sometimes AKA relevance engineering - depth and breadth on algorithms and production level coding are going to be really important. If you’re doing “analytics for humans” then an encyclopedic knowledge of algorithms gets you severely diminishing marginal returns.
