How is Product Management in Facebook different from that in Google?

FACEBOOK VS GOOGLE

GOOGLE

  1. The Google APM program only accepts candidates with arduous technical backgrounds (typically computer science, but sometimes electrical engineering or other technical fields).
  2. Most APMs have beforehand worked as software engineering interns or part-time at tech companies. 3. They are vigorous enough programmers to be software engineers at Google.

FACEBOOK

  1. In contrast, the Facebook RPM program accepts applicants of all academic backgrounds.
  2. Some RPMs have prior technical backgrounds, and others have established humanities backgrounds.
  3. Many have no experience with software engineering. This is mainly due to the fundamentally different roles of PM on Google and Facebook.

HOW GOOGLE DOES IT?
At Google, PMs need to work more proximately with engineers on the technical aspects of the projects they work on. Google’s APM is (conventionally) not coded. Still, it would help if you understood what it can do, how long it will take to implement it, and so on. One implicative insinuation is that Google APM is considered a technical PM. That’s not the case with Facebook RPMs.
