The primary job of a capacity planner is to estimate the production capacity required by an organization and suggest the facility needed to ensure that level of production. The detailed job description of a capacity planner are described below:

• prepare capacity plans for the organization to assess the cost related to operating at various capacities.
• Undertake Reviews of the current system in order to better serve the needs of consumers and complete orders on time.
• Performing an assessment of the current capacity and making a forecast for future demand.
• Constantly monitor and devise plans to deal with any sudden and unforeseen changes in situations.
• Find out variances with respect to current levels of production pinpoint areas that cause them and take appropriate measures.
• Conduct qualitative as well as quantitative research on the methods of production used to maximize the use of resources.
• Maintain capacity utilization and Performance reports in order to present them to the top management and internal stakeholders.
