What is Quantitative Data?

Quantitative data is any set of information that can be identified and examined statistically. Because quantitative data can be measured objectively, it is the most important sort of data for use in both mathematics and statistics which is widely used in Data Science.

Quantitative data is classified into two types:

  1. Discrete
  2. Continuous

1. Discrete:

Data that can only take specific fixed values is referred to as discrete data. While discrete data is not required to be represented by whole numbers, there are certain limitations on how it may be described.

Example:

  • Number of people in a room
  • Number of working days
  • Number of leaves

2. Continuous:

Continuous data are numbers within a range that do not have to be entire and may vary more often with time.

Example:

  • Room temperature
  • Wind speed
  • Sale of a product every day
