What is GMAT?

GMAT (Graduate Management Admission Test) is an admissions entrance test conducted by GMAC (The Graduate Management Admission Council), conducted for students who want to pursue post-graduate education in management, business, accountancy, or finance.

The exam is used as a screening tool by many colleges. The examination tries to test the student’s skills in the verbal and quantitative domain. It also analyses a candidate’s ability to organize data, analyze the provided data and make decisions based on the analysis. All top business institutes including Harvard, Stanford, NYU Stern, etc. accept the GMAT scores as proof of competency. Recently it has become available in both online as well as offline (earlier it was only offline) mode due to the pandemic.

The examination consists of the following four sections:

  1. Analytical writing assessment (ARA)
  2. Verbal Reasoning (VR)
  3. Integrated reasoning (IR)
  4. Quantitative reasoning (QR)

The order of attempting the exam can be decided by the candidate from the following three orders

  1. ARA; IR; QR; VR
  2. VR; QR; IR; ARA
  3. QR; VR; IR; ARA

IMPORTANT Pointers

The average examination duration is 3.5 hours.
The maximum attainable score is 800.
The score is valid for a period of 5 years from the date of release of results.
