What is Azure Active Directory (Azure AD)?

Microsoft’s Azure AD is a cloud-based IAM solution and directory. Application access management, core directory services, and identity protection are all combined into a single solution. It enables an organization’s workers to sign in and access resources such as:

  • Microsoft 365, the Azure portal, and a large variety of SaaS apps are examples of external resources.

  • Internal resources, such as corporate network and intranet apps, as well as any cloud-based apps developed by that company

Azure Active Directory is intended for usage by Azure, Office 365, Microsoft 365, or Dynamics CRM Online subscribers IT Admins App Developers

Microsoft Azure Active Directory cuts down the clutter of multiple logins for services that an organization leverages by providing Single Sign-On (SSO) for the employees. The way it works is that each employee gets a single login credential that works for every cloud-based service that they access.

These credentials are curated according to the permissions that an employee has so that they access only the services that they require. It is basically an identity management system solution.
