Tax-exempt bonds issued by or on behalf of a municipal or state government for the purpose of providing special financing benefits for eligible projects are known as private activity bonds (PAB). The money is usually used for private-sector initiatives, and the government seldom puts its credit on the line. Conduit bonds are another name for private activity bonds.
