Data Science is simply statistics applied to real-world data in order to make judgments. When those decisions have to do with business or consumer psychology/behavior, it’s called commerce and economics.

Companies are increasingly recruiting data scientists with a degree in commerce because they are more economics-focused and can assist in making critical choices using data. Companies like Amazon and Google recruit a large number of data scientists with an economics background to decipher massive quantities of data in order to identify new business possibilities, customer trends, and incentivize purchasing.
