What are some weaknesses of IBM?

Following are some weaknesses of IBM listed by Ex-employee:

  • There is much structure here, possibly too much. At least three other managers surround managers. Everything must pass via the managers’ loop.
  • As an engineer, I am aware that they do not pay as well as other large software businesses in the United States.
  • There is seniority and pay grade culture here. This is not directly visible, but you will notice it if you have been with the company for a while. If you are a new member of staff, it is a given that you will not be promoted or given a raise for at least two years.
  • People tend to be closed-minded. This is most likely due to their age or because they have never had any experience outside of the organization. This is difficult to define, although most employees are ‘lifers,’ and staying at the same firm for ten years is common. This leads to thinking in a box and dismissing everything else as “crazy.”
  • Offices appear to have remained unchanged since World War II. Everything is dimly lit, squared, and uninteresting.
