Companies will categorize their obligations according to when they are due. Current obligations have a one-year maturity and are frequently repaid using current assets. Debt repayments and delayed payments are examples of noncurrent obligations that are due in more than a year. Because they are part of continuing current and long-term operations, most firms will have these two line items on their balance sheet.
