Disadvantages of Net Neutrality

Net neutrality opponents argue that by requiring ISPs to treat all traffic equally, the government would hinder new infrastructure investment and create a disincentive for ISPs to innovate. The upfront expenses of laying fiber optic line, for example, maybe rather high, and opponents claim that not being able to charge more for that level of access is a major disadvantage. Conservative research groups, hardware firms, and big communications carriers are all against the open internet. The providers claim that they need to be able to charge tiered pricing for access in order to remain competitive and raise funding for additional broadband network innovation and development, as well as to recuperate expenses already spent on broadband.
