Causes of Underemployment?

Several factors can contribute to underemployment. Underemployment is a term used to describe the period during and after a recession when businesses shrink and lay off competent personnel. As a result of the coronavirus epidemic, underemployment reached new highs during the recession.
Changes in the work market as a result of technological advancements are another source of underemployment. Layoffs can be retrained or retired from the workforce as job descriptions change or tasks are automated. Those who do not have the resources or means to retrain are more likely to be unemployed.
