There are no formal requirements for becoming a Data Scientist. Data scientists can be MBAs, scientists, or bachelor’s degree holders with excellent logical thinking and a strong foundation in statistics and programming backed by real-world experience.
All that is required is real-world experience. Join a firm as an intern and work with data science teams for six months to gain a better understanding of the broader picture. Since R programming is the major tool, learn it on the side.
